Indian Society of Hypertension was initiated by few enthusiastic clinicians and basic scientist 35years ago. The founder members include Prof. Shailendra Vajpayee, Prof. R.B. Singh and Prof. Ramesh Goyal. In 1992 Prof. Shailendra Vajpayee was elected the Founder President of society and Prof. R.B. Singh was elected as Secretary General. Since then, the society is organizing various academic events including the annual conferences and various updates. At present, the society has more than 2000 active members, who are engaged in active academic interests. The society is aiming for increasing the awareness about hypertension among masses and training the young physicians about management of Hypertension. The society also engaged in providing the platform for various sub specialities and super specialities for the discussion, formulation of expert opinion and training of young hypertension oriented physicians. Recently, the society has developed the comprehensive Indian guidelines for the management of Hypertension. These guidelines have been made on the basis of some Indian data and with intensive discussion between 100 specialists of the country. The society owns its official journal by the name of "Hypertension: The Journal of InSH". This quarterly journal has been converted to e-journal and is mailed to all members from time to time. At present, the society is governed by 12 governing body members, President Prof. Rajiv Gupta, Secretary General – Prof. Anuj Maheshwari, Treasurer – Prof. Narsingh Verma and immediate past president Dr. S.N. Narasingan.
